A Localized Approach to Combating Rural Food Insecurity
Increasing access to fresh food & improving community health
Our Vision
We see a future where everyone can access healthy, fresh, and locally-grown produce, regardless of income or location. Cascade Mobile Markets aims to improve the health and well-being of individuals and families in rural communities while supporting local farmers and promoting sustainable agriculture practices.
Our Story
Cascade Mobile Markets grew from living and traveling to small communities around Stevens Country, Washington. Seeing the lack of local, affordable, and fresh food options in these rural areas with abundant agriculture inspired us to create a program that leverages local strengths to address local needs. Cascade Mobile Markets will be the first fresh fruit and vegetable (FFV) mobile market to serve the rural regions in which we are based.
Our Impact
This initiative builds upon the public health and food insecurity expertise held by the Cascade Mobile Markets Impact team and is grounded in data and evidence-based strategy. In 2023, we launched a pilot program focused on three major design components:
1. Leverage the success of the Double Up Food Buck (SNAP-based nutrition incentive) program to increase affordability and access of FFV for individuals on SNAP.
2. Explore the feasibility of providing 'produce prescription boxes' to those experiencing diet-related chronic conditions to improve individuals' health and wellness.
3. Local procurement and distribution to provide economic benefits to farmers, expand reach, and ensure quality control through mutually beneficial relationships.
Our goal is to continue to build strategic partnerships with Cascade Impact, a hybrid operation that provides support based on evidence-based models to scale direct service delivery, to achieve true impact and operational sustainability in 2024 and beyond.
